    This first dictionary published by the American Psychological Association, represents a snapshot of the lexicon psychology as it exists at the beginning of the 21st century.  Approximately 25,000 entries cover psychological concepts, processes, and therapies, and offer basic coverage of important individuals, organizations and institutions, and psychological tests and assessment instruments.

  • Academic OneFile.
    Contains 11,000 academic journals, including some peer-reviewed, full-text articles. Journal articles cover a wide range of subjects, including psychology and the social sciences.  Academic OneFile also contains full text of the New York Times, Financial Times, Times of London, and NPR Audio. Full text articles are available in both PDF and HTML format.

    Abstracts are included from 1980 to present.  Selected titles from 1997 forward are available full text.

    Contains basic information and analysis, including descriptions of influences and reception concerning some 500 individuals whose work is of significance in psychology.
  • Survey of Social Science:  Psychology Series.
    (Ref. BF31 .S79 1993)  6 vols.
    Contains 410 articles examining topics from eighteen major areas of psychology.  Each article begins with ready-reference information that states the type of psychology and particular field or fields of study to which the article’s topic belongs.  A summary comes next, followed by an overview, applications, the context, and lastly, a bibliography.

Research Guides

    This annotated bibliography is arranged in chapters corresponding to the major subdisciplines of psychology:  biological psychology, sensation and perception, emotion, motivation, learning, cognition, consciousness, memory, language, developmental psychology, social psychology, assessment, personality, stress, psychopathology, and psychotherapy.  Most of the entries are from the 1970s to early 1990s, and include books, chapters of books, articles, and a few popular psychology books.  Significant historical works are also included.

    Provides an introduction to a vast array of research methods by giving an account of their purposes, principles, developments, and applications.

Associations, Organizations & Societies

  • American Psychological Association.
    The American Psychological Association (APA) is a scientific and professional organization that represents psychology in the United States. With 148,000 members, APA is the largest association of psychologists worldwide.
  • National Institute of Mental Health.
    One of 27 components of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Federal government's principal biomedical and behavioral research agency. NIH is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

General Sites

  • Classics in the History of Psychology.
    Developed as an effort to make the full texts of a large number of historically significant public domain documents from the scholarly literature of psychology and allied disciplines available on the World Wide Web. There are now over 25 books and about 200 articles and chapters on-line. The site also contains links to over 200 relevant works posted at other sites.  Information is sorted by author and topic.

    Provides information about the practice of clinical psychology.
