AAUP MINUTES

April 28, 2005

Members Present:  Colleen Hays, Paula Hinton, Wali Kharif, Paul Semmes, Kristin Walker, Sharon Whitney

We did not have enough members for a quorum, so no votes were taken.

Jonakin submitted a written Treasurer’s Report—“As of today—Wednesday, April 27—we have $1,759.73 in our account and another check for $597.30 that I’ve yet to cash [they just downsized (closed) the 10th Street branch so I have to go downtown or over to the Jefferson St. branch to make deposits.]…so total: $2,357.03.”

Kharif—Membership—reported that there are currently 57 members.

Whitney reported for Committee AOne person has requested help and has since spoken to Dr. Barker and B. Stein, so she no longer needs our help anymore.  The file is closed.  She will write a letter, explaining her side of the story, and it will be put in her permanent file.

The AAUP Resolution on Inversion PayHas not gone forward yet.

The President has received a report from the Faculty Compensation Committee studying pay issues.  Not all of the data has been given to him yet (as of a week ago anyway).  A discussion of this report will take place in early fall.

We discussed where to send the AAUP resolution once it is ready.  We decided it  should be sent to President Bell, with copies to:

            Dr. Barker

John Harris (chair of the Faculty Salary Equity Committee)

Bob Niebuhr (chair of the Faculty Compensation Committee)

Hays will contact Baker and check on the status of the resolution.

Kharif suggested that we write President Bell and ask him to speak on this issue at the next AAUP meeting in the fall.  It was suggested that we also invite Dr. Barker.

It was also suggested that we consider holding a forum about this at some point next year.

Nominating CommitteeSince there was not a sufficient number of members at the meeting, we decided to hold an email vote (with write-ins possible).  Kharif will create and send out the ballot to members, and will collect the votes.  There were no nominations from the floor.

Such Other Matters

We are on the Administrative Calendar for next year.  All of the meetings will be held on Thursdays.

Whitney urged that we update out Web Page.  She suggested we check with Pat Reagan in History to see if he would be willing to do so.

Whitney also suggested that we update our by-laws and constitution.  It has been more than 10 years since these have been updated.  Whitney volunteered to look at the by-laws and constitution and suggested that we put together a committee.

Respectfully submitted,

Paula Hinton
