Ms. Wheatley (substituting for Dr. Faw) called the meeting to order at 3:10 p.m. Approval of MinutesDr. Cho moved to approve the October 1, 2003 minutes after corrections. Ms. Laird seconded the motion and the committee voted to approve the motion. Lottery Scholarship Ms. Tolbert opened the meeting with discussion of the lottery scholarship. It was suggested that TTU align with the lottery regulations and require a student to receive a “W” when dropping a course on or after the 15th day for courses lasting seven weeks or more. For courses lasting less than seven weeks, after the 7th day will be used to award a grade of “W”. Dr. James stressed the importance of making it clear how the 15 day period was calculated. Dr. Cho moved to accept the policy, and Ms. Galloway seconded the motion. The motion carried. For lottery purposes, less than full time students must have special permission due to medical problems or comparable circumstances to be exempt from the above requirements. Beginning Fall 2004, it was agreed that students cannot register for classes more than three days after the first day of a semester. Ms. Tolbert asked for discussion regarding the policy that students who take a course and pass it then repeat the course and fail it. The rule has been that the “F” replaces the original grade. The consensus of the committee was that the policy should remain the same. Dr. James expressed his hope that the committee makes every effort to inform students about the lottery scholarship program. Ms. Tolbert added that the committee must stress that students need to balance the load of family, work and other commitments with their academic responsibilities. Mr. Pigg suggested adding the lottery scholarship information to the Goal Quest program. Ms. Tolbert informed the committee that applications were up 4 ½ % over last year and the increase was in the ACT 26 and above applicants. Ms. Wheatley moved for adjournment, seconded by Ms. Galloway. The meeting was adjourned at 3:45 p.m. This page maintained by: Jerri
