About the Department

Welcome to the Accounting Department at Tennessee Tech University!

Per national surveys of the past several years, conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, accounting has been the most in-demand university degree nationwide.  At TTU, the Accounting major has among the highest number of available on-campus job interviews for its students of any major.  Per the Bureaus of Labor Statistics Occupational Handbook, the number of accounting jobs in the U.S. will increase by 13% during the 2012-2022 decade.

The Accounting Program is characterized by professionally-qualified instructors and high-quality, rigorous classes. Frequent extra-curricular activities provide students with direct access to a wide variety of practicing professionals.  Our stakeholders include employers such as international accounting firms, the Internal Revenue Service, Business & Industry, and government.

Every Fall, accounting employers converge on TTU's campus for our annual Meet-the-Firms event. This annual event provides an excellent opportunity for networking and often results in jobs and internships for our accounting students. Nationally, employers generally pay premium salaries to top accounting students and TTU is no exception.  Currently, the Department's top accounting graduates start at salaries in the $50,000+ range.

The Department also has a highly successful internship program.  While we do not directly select or place students, we work closely with our stakeholders to bring together students seeking internships and employers seeking interns.  Every year, students participating in the internship program receive real-world exposure to the accounting workplace.  Many students also receive offers of permanent employment.

Since Spring 2011, the Accounting Department has offered an international experience course.  A select group of 12-20 students is selected via an application process each year to participate in this exciting opportunity to gain valuable experience in international accounting and international travel.  After several weeks of coursework and study, the entire group is led by their professor to London, UK during Spring Break!  This program has been one of the most exciting additions to our program in years.

The Department's online program is geared to assist students needing academic accounting credit to sit for the CPA Exam or to prepare them to pursue graduate-level studies in accounting.  If you are interested in changing careers or want to acquire new skills for your current job, our online courses are an ideal vehicle to transition to an accounting career. Each year eight to ten (8-10) upper-division accounting courses are offered 100% online.
