In September of 2007, 37 accounting employers were on campus for our annual
Meet-the-Firms event. This annual
event always results in jobs and internships for accounting students. Currently, the department's top
accounting graduates start at salaries in the 50K range. The Department is highly excited and
energized by the tremendous opportunities available to its students.
The Accounting Department
has a highly successful internship program.
Every year via placement with employers, students participating in
the department's internship program get real-world exposure to the
accounting workplace. After
completion of the required 400 hours on-the-job, the students return to
campus where they enrich senior level classes with details of their work
experiences.
We are now offering undergraduate
accounting courses online. This online program is geared
for anyone needing to acquire academic Accounting credit to sit for the CPA
Exam or to finish an undergraduate degree in accounting. If you are
interested in changing careers or want to acquire new skills for your
current job, this series of courses may be for you. They are the ideal vehicle to accumulate
academic accounting credit and make the transition to an accounting career.
The department also offers
an accounting concentration (12 semester hours) in the College's Distance MBA program.. TTU's distance MBA is an
ideal way to obtain an advanced degree and/or accumulate the academic
credit hours needed to sit for the Uniform CPA examination.
The TTU accounting
department is unusually well-connected with the practicing profession To
serve practicing professionals; the department offers a program of
continuing education each year. Each
year we offer the following continuing education opportunities:
In January, tax issues
facing churches and the clergy (a 2-hour seminar); in August, an 8-hour
state-of-the art technology update for accountants and auditors; and in
September, an 8-hour seminar on Tennessee Sales, Use, Employment, and other
business taxes. All these programs
qualify for Tennessee State Board of Accountancy Continuing Education
credit. More Information.
We urge students to consider
an accounting major. The
opportunities are almost unlimited.
We hope you find this information useful.
