Per national surveys of the past several years conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, accounting has been the most in-demand university degree nationwide. At TTU, the accounting major is unsurpassed in the number of available on-campus job interviews for its students. Per the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Handbook 2007, the number of accounting jobs in the U.S. will increase by 18% during the 2006-2016 decade.

The accounting program is characterized by top-notch instructors and high-quality classes. A continual stream of highly beneficial extra-curricular activities provide students with direct access to a wide variety of practicing professionals from employers such as international accounting firms, the Internal Revenue Service, Business & Industry, and government.
In September of 2009, 32 accounting employers were on campus for our annual Meet-the-Firms event. This annual event always results in jobs and internships for accounting students. Nationally, employers generally pay premium salaries to top accounting students and TTU is no exception.Currently, the department's top accounting graduates start at salaries in the 50K range. The Department is highly excited and energized by the tremendous opportunities available to its students.
The Accounting Department has a highly successful internship program. Every year via placement with employers, students participating in the department's internship program get real-world exposure to the accounting workplace. After completion of the required 400 hours on-the-job, the students return to campus where they enrich senior level classes with details of their work experiences.
The department's online program is geared for anyone needing academic accounting credit to sit for the CPA Exam or to finish an undergraduate degree in accounting. If you are interested in changing careers or want to acquire new skills for your current job, this series of courses may be for you. They are the ideal vehicle to transition to an accounting career. Each year eight to ten (8-10) upper-division accounting courses are offered 100% online.
The department also offers an accounting concentration (12 semester hours) in the College's Distance MBA Program. TTU's distance MBA is an ideal way to obtain an advanced degree and/or accumulate the academic credit hours needed to sit for the Uniform CPA examination.
