Accounting and Business Law 
The Department's online courses are of high quality. The College of Business is fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the nation's highest level of accreditation. The Accounting Department has separate accreditation from the AACSB. No accounting program in the State of Tennessee has a higher level of accreditation.
Demand for accountants is strong, as is evidenced by the fact that National Association of Colleges and Employers surveys has rated accounting as the most in-demand degree nationwide for the past four years. If you already hold a university degree you should declare accounting as a 2nd degree when you apply to TTU for admission. The accounting department provides all the accounting courses required online. Nonaccounting courses that may be required for a 2nd degree may be taken on-campus at TTU or some other university, may be taken online from other universities, or may be available via the State of Tennessee's Regents Online Degree Program.
To sit for the Uniform Certified Public Accountant's (CPA) Examination in Tennessee, you must complete 24-hours of accounting courses and 24-hours of coursework in other business areas. In addition, you must be within 200 days of having a total of 150 semester hours of college credit. Interested individuals should consult the TTU Schedule of classes to confirm which classes will be available each term. In the schedule of classes, courses marked as section no. 500 are online courses. A full description of each of these courses is available via the TTU online catalog.
Individuals with a Business Degree will generally already have two accounting principles courses (or six hours of accounting credit). Coupled with six of the online courses offered by the department, the Tennessee State Board requirement of 24 hours of accounting (to sit for the CPA exam) can be satisfied.
In addition to our core undergraduate accounting courses, we also offer a concentration in accounting in our online MBA program. An MBA with an accounting concentration is a way to meet CPA examination requirements while earning an advanced degree at the same time.
