Recommendation from Buildings and Grounds for Memorial Plaque Honoring TTU Alumni who
were killed in World War II to be placed in Memorial Gym - Dr. Mike Nivens
Dr. Nivens said the Buildings and Grounds Committee met on September 10, 1998 and approved
the following recommendation, upon available funding, of an SGA bill calling for a memorial
plaque honoring TTU alumni who were killed in World War II to be placed in Memorial Gym.
The bill stated that on May 24, 1952, President Everett Derryberry called for this plaque to be
erected in the entrance hall at the front of the building. Such a plaque has never been placed.
The recommended wording from the SGA bill follows:
IN MEMORIAM
WE PAY REVERENT TRIBUTE TO THOSE FROM OUR
MIDST WHO GAVE TO THEIR COUNTRY THE LAST
FULL MEASURE OF DEVOTION IN WORLD WAR II
Dedicated May 24, 1952
President Everett Derryberry
Dr. Nivens said since this recommendation was made they have found that a similar plaque is
located in the Alumni Lounge of the University. After discussing whether or not two plaques of
this similiarity should be located on campus, Dr. Kemp MOVED that a plaque be placed in
Memorial Gym as follows:
THIS BUILDING IS DEDICATED TO THOSE FROM THE
UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY WHO DIED IN WORLD WAR II
Dedicated May 24, 1952
President Everett Derryberry
