Recommendation from Buildings and Grounds for Memorial Plaque Honoring TTU Alumni who
were killed in World War II to be placed in Memorial Gym - Dr. Mike Nivens

Dr. Nivens said the Buildings and Grounds Committee met on September 10, 1998 and approved
the following recommendation, upon available funding, of an SGA bill calling for a memorial
plaque honoring TTU alumni who were killed in World War II to be placed in Memorial Gym.
The bill stated that on May 24, 1952, President Everett Derryberry called for this plaque to be
erected in the entrance hall at the front of the building. Such a plaque has never been placed.
The recommended wording from the SGA bill follows:

                          IN MEMORIAM
WE PAY REVERENT TRIBUTE TO THOSE FROM OUR
MIDST WHO GAVE TO THEIR COUNTRY THE LAST
FULL MEASURE OF DEVOTION IN WORLD WAR II
                     Dedicated May 24, 1952
                  President Everett Derryberry

Dr. Nivens said since this recommendation was made they have found that a similar plaque is
located in the Alumni Lounge of the University. After discussing whether or not two plaques of
this similiarity should be located on campus, Dr. Kemp MOVED that a plaque be placed in
Memorial Gym as follows:

THIS BUILDING IS DEDICATED TO THOSE FROM THE
UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY WHO DIED IN WORLD WAR II
                     Dedicated May 24, 1952
                  President Everett Derryberry

Report from Subcommittee appointed to study the request for staff representation on the
Administrative Council - Dr. Will Schrader

Dr. Schrader said at the September 2, 1998 Administrative Council meeting, a request was
received from the Staff Advisory Committee to add representation from the staff to the Council.
The Chairperson had appointed a committee to study this recommendation of which Dr. Schrader
was appointed Chair. Dr. Schrader said the subcommittee recommends that two voting members
and two alternate members (one from the clerical and one from the support staff of the
university) be added to the membership at the time committee appointments are made for the
1999-2000 year. Dr. Schrader MOVED approval of the subcommittee's proposal which also
included revisions to the Council procedures reflecting these changes with Dr. George
SECONDING. MOTION CARRIED.

Such Other Matters

Dr. Brown said it has been brought to his attention that the Administrative Council membership
consists of twelve administrative appointees and should be eleven. Dr. Cho MOVED that the
membership remain as is until the committee appointments are made for the 1999-2000 year and
that it be changed to eleven at that time. Ms. Odom SECONDED the Motion. MOTION
CARRIED.

The meeting adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
