SPRING 2012 EXHIBITS
Joan Derryberry Art Gallery - 1st Floor Roaden University Center

Jan. 17 - Feb. 9, 2012   MORGAN CRAIG, paintings
Feb. 9
, 4:30 pm              Gallery talk/reception
Morgan Craig has a BFA in Painting with Teacher Certification from Tyler School of Art, Temple University.  He has an MFA in Painting from University of the Arts in Philadelphia.  Craig's work is inspired by research into the bowels of a chemical factory in Slovakia, a sugar factory in Finland, and the city of Pripyat in the Chernobyl Zone of Exclusion.  These buildings once represented the towns and neighborhoods where they exist in grand fashion.  Now neglected, repurposed, and vandalized, these structures, according to Craig, offer a "scintillating of subject matter: how beautiful the bitter pill.  My work is not merely a method of documentation, but a visual forum where one may question what it is about these edifices that instills such emotion in people."  These paintings are beautiful on face value, but are also very thought provoking on the changes in the cities since the industrial age until now.  http://www.morgancraig.org
