Frequently Asked Questions

Q - What are the admissions requirements at TTU?

For incoming freshman, basic admissions requirements are based on ACT or SAT I scores, high school curriculum and grade point average (GPA). In order to receive unconditional admission, you must fall in to one of the following catagories:

19 ACT Composite*
AND
2.0 High School GPA
AND
12 of 14 Academic Units
OR
17 ACT Composite**
AND
2.5 High School GPA
AND
12 of 14 Academic Units
* Or SAT total score of 900 (Critical Reading + Math scores)
** Or SAT total score of 810 (Critical Reading + Math scores)

If you do not meet these requirements, an admissions committee will review your application, and you may be accepted for probationary admission.

For Transfer students, applicants must have at least a 2.0 in their last full-time semester (or last 12 hours for part-time students), have completed the 14 core high school academic units (if they graduated from high school after 1989), and met the academic standards listed in the Undergraduate catalog (refer to the catalog for complete details for transfer student admission).


Q - When should I apply for admission?

We encourage you to apply for admission one year before you plan to start at TTU. For new freshman, this is in the fall of your senior year of high school. To be considered for academic scholarships you must apply before December 15 of the year before you plan to enter.

You must apply for the Fall term (starts in late August) by August 1 and for the Spring term (starts in mid-January) by December 1 to be admitted.


Q - What majors does TTU offer?

Tennessee Tech University offers 90 undergraduate majors. Even though our middle name is Technological, TTU is a comprehensive university with a wide variety of course offerings.


Q - Where is TTU located?

Tennessee Tech’s campus is located on the north side of Cookeville, Tennessee, about three miles from Interstate-40. Localed approximately halfway between Nashville and Knoxville, Cookeville's population is about 26,000.

Q - How many students live on campus?

TTU has more than 2,000 students living in residence halls and in campus apartments.


Q - Do I have to live in the residence halls?

Students whose permanent address is not within a 50-mile radius are required to live in the residence halls for four semesters. There are exceptions, such as living with a family member who does not attend Tennessee Tech.

Q - What is the cost of attendance per year?

The total cost for in-state maintenance fees and charges (tuition), room, meal plan and books/supplies is about $12,510 for the 2007-2008 school year. A detailed listing of fees is available on the Bursar's website at www.tntech.edu/bursar/fees.html.
