Academic Development Program Goals
Goals for Developmental Mathematics students are:
| To develop problem-solving skills. |
| To learn to manage resources (time). |
| To assist in success in nonmathematical courses that require a grasp of algebraic fundamentals. |
| To view mathematics as a language of patterns. |
| To develop the ability to translate data into mathematical language and to interpret that language. |
Goals for Developmental Reading students:

To improve the fundamental thinking, reasoning, and language abilities that students need for academic success |

To engage students in the active process of thinking |
|
To practice thinking clearly about complex, controversial issues |
|
To learn to relate critical thinking abilities to daily life |
|
To improve vocabulary and reading ability |

To practice critical analysis and communication with others |
Goals of Developmental Writing are:
| to provide the groundwork of basic communications skills so that students are able to write on a level that will permit them to function successfully in their chosen fields of student in the university community |
| to provide students the opportunity to prepare themselves for the work required in freshman composition |
| to provide students with the opportunity to acquire an understanding of levels of usage and of appropriate usage for various situations |
| to provide students with basic skills and assurance in using standard conventions of written English |
| to provide students with the background for recognizing writing as a process involving collecting ideas, drafting, revising |
| to provide students with the skills for accomplishing basic research |
| to provide students with the opportunity to develop the ability to respond actively and imaginatively to literature |
