2011 Southeast Regional Collegiate Soils Contest!
On October 7, 2011, seven students from the TTU School of Agriculture participated in the 2011 Southeast Regional Collegiate Soils Contest hosted by West Virginia University. These students spent three intensive days in rain and mud studying the soils of West Virginia. Their hard work culminated in a 5th place in the team competition, making this year’s group eligible for the National Soil Judging Contest to be held in Morgantown, WV in late March/early April 2012. Ten teams from the southeastern region competed including, in order of finish: Virginia Tech (1), UT-Knoxville (2), Auburn (3), Kentucky (4), Tennessee Tech (5), Georgia (6), Western Ky (7), NC State (8), UT-Martin (9), and Clemson (10). High scorers for TTU were: Joseph Martin, Jefferson City, TN , 6th place high individual and Lee-Allen Turner, McMinnville, TN, 9th place high individual. Also, contributing to the team effort were: Ray Handley, Cole Patton, Mandy Millard, Jayda Crabtree, Kayla Barber, and coach Janice Branson.
The School of Agriculture has reached a record high number of students! We currently have 323 students enrolled for the 2011 Fall semester!
