A student who wishes to study engineering may choose to enter the Basic Engineering Program (BE). This first year of study allows the student more time to decide which area of engineering to pursue. At any point in the year, the student may transfer to an engineering major.

The admission requirements for Basic Engineering are the same as those for the College of Engineering.
A student must meet the requirements for admission to the University and the following additional requirements:
If a student meets the requirement for admission to the University but not the requirements to enter an engineering program of study, he/she may be admitted into the General Curriculum program.
If a student enters the General Curriculum program, he/she may change to an Engineering major after completing five hours of college mathematics that include trigonometric identities with a grade of "C" or better, achieving a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, and maintaining good standing with the University.

A student who wishes to change his/her major from a non-engineering program into Basic Engineering prior to entering an engineering degree-granting department must meet the following requirements.
