Basic Engineering

What type of engineer?

Even though it’s one of the first questions people will ask you, you don’t have to have the answer right away.

Our Basic Engineering Program lets you spend a year learning about the different fields and design concepts they all share. Basic engineering is where you start if you’ve not decided on a specific engineering discipline. But the first-year program is of the same high quality as any specific program.

What classes and experiences?

You’ll take the fundamental subjects, such as calculus, chemistry and English, but you’ll also learn engineering skills including graphics and computer programming. You’ll also learn team-skills essential to a successful career.

What next?

You can change your major to a specific engineering field any time during the first year. You may find the less-theoretical manufacturing and industrial technology program suits you better. Basic engineering allows you to explore your interests and make progress toward a degree at the same time.
