Senior Accountant at Fairfield Glade Resort
This is my first year serving on the Board of Trustees.
As an alumnus, it is difficult to pick a favorite, but as parents, our favorite thing about TTU is how happy and inspired our daughter feels about attending Tech. She is encouraged as well as challenged by her professors reassuring her of her life choices.
My interest to serve as a trustee comes from a desire to be a more active part of the association as well as a strong desire to give back to this great organization. As a 2011 TTU graduate and a mother of two college students I can share insight from many perspectives. I have a heart for TTU as well as the mission and purpose of TTUPA.
I think TTUPA is important to TTU to give students, parents, and the university a direct line of communication as well as a support system that will provide guidance and strength to the college experience.
My vision for the Parent Association in the next 5 to 10 years is abundant growth in membership and support. With the current membership between 1,500 and 1,600 I feel that the organization is headed for great things and will continue to be an important part of the college experience. My desire is to be an active part of that growth.
I currently have one student majoring in Human Ecology-Food, Nutrition, & Dietetics. I also have one former student that majored in Multi-Disciplinary Studies.
I think parents of college student’s struggle most with letting their student “spread their wings and fly.” There are so many emotions involved during the transition making this a tough time to adjust to their new and exciting endeavors that you have the joy of sharing with them.
My advice for other parents would be to encourage your college student to get involved and enjoy their college experience. Help them to realize how fast it passes by and this time is the best time of their life, encourage them to slow down and relish in it.
