Annual Trumpet Activities
Trumpet study at Tennessee Tech University incorporates activities designed to provide a wide range of solo and ensemble experiences. Tech trumpeters annually present the Fall Trumpet Festival, a concert series by students and faculty, and Pops Night for Trumpet featuring "lighter" solo literature ranging from Arban to Mendez. The TTU Trumpet Ensemble has premiered more than 60 works and specializes in original and transcribed music for trumpet ensembles of more than 5 parts ranging from orchestral works to pop arrangements. TTU founded the Tennessee Trumpet Competition and Trumpet Seminar with guest artists and prominent Tennessee trumpet professionals serving as judges in awarding cash prizes to high school and college solo and ensemble performers.

The TTU Trumpet Ensemble
Since 1982, the TTU Trumpet Ensemble has specialized in performing music of five and more parts, and has premiered more than 70 compositions. Works created for the Tech Trumpet Ensemble have been performed at the International Guild Conferences, the National Trumpet Competition, and 13 compositions written for the group have been published. Repertoire includes symphonic excerpts, original compositions, transcriptions of music from 1550 to the twentieth century, pop and jazz arrangements. The ensemble has performed at the International Trumpet Guild Conference, Tennessee Music Educators Conferences, at the National Trumpet Competition, and appeared on PBS television stations across the country in two Christmas concert specials. It has the unique honor of being the first trumpet ensemble
to present a complete concert for the world famous Streitweiser Trumpet Museum. Of the trumpet ensemble Vincent DiMartino, internationally famous trumpet soloist and former President of the International Trumpet Guild, says, I expected the ensemble to be very good, but I was wrong - they were marvelous! The level of musicianship displayed was as awesome as the degree of preparation. I was honored to perform the Stözel "Concerto" with you. Ralph Dudgeon, nationally recognized trumpet scholar, performer, and Associate Director of the Streitweiser Foundation Trumpet Museum, says, "I was impressed by the musicianship of your students as well as their off-stage behavior. Your performance brought universal praise. "
