Arts and Sciences

HARRY ENLOW MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: Upper Cumberland residents as well as students from Bledsoe, Sequatchie, Marion, and Grundy Counties are eligible for this $1,200 scholarship. Applicants must be first-generation college students and must be a entering freshmen. Students must have a 3.0 GPA or better from high school.

RICHARD H. FRASER SCHOLARSHIP: Students with a composite ACT score of 28 and a high school GPA OF 3.5 or better may apply for this $2,000 award.

MARSHALL AND THELMA G. BERTRAM LIBERAL ARTS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: All rising juniors in good standing with the university may apply for this scholarship. The recipient must have demonstrated good character and maintained a 3.25 GPA during the freshman/sophomore years. Financial need may be considered, but it is not required to apply. Recipients must also be liberal arts majors in history, English, or a foreign language. The amount of the award will be maintenance fees for one academic year.

RIGGIO SCHOLARSHIP: Any African-American entering the university as a freshman may apply for this award. Financial need and scholastic achievement will be considered in the selection. The scholarship may be renewed up to four years if the recipient maintains a 3.0 GPA.

Biology

FARLEY MEMORIAL BIOLOGY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: All upper classman on the senior level may apply for this $800 scholarship. Students must submit a formal application essay through the Biology Department during the spring semester of their junior year. Priority will be given to students from the Upper Cumberland area. Financial need may be considered.

GORDON BENNET PENNEBAKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: Students
accepted into the Master’s program in the Department of Biology are eligible for this $500 scholarship.

BARTOO SCHOLARSHIP: All Biology majors are eligible for this award that is valued around $300.

Chemistry

CHEMISTRY MEDICAL SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP: This $150 award is open to all students studying in the Health Sciences who are members of the Chemical Medical Sciences Club.

HOWARD G. ASHBURN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: Students in good standing with the university qualify for this $500 award. Applicants must have completed three semesters of study, two at TTU, and maintained a 3.0 GPA. A student must be a U.S. citizen to apply.

LELA M. BLANKENSHIP ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: Sophomores, juniors, and seniors may apply for this $1,000 award. All students in good standing with the university who have a 3.0 GPA qualify for the scholarship. Financial need may be considered in the selection.

JAMES POWELL AND WILLIE RUSH JEWELL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:
Students who have completed two semesters in Chemistry at TTU are eligible for this $800 award. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and be in good standing with the university. Students must be U.S. citizens in order to apply. Financial need may be considered.

BOB OGLESBY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: Any student pursuing a degree in Chemistry or Engineering may apply for this $750 scholarship. A student must have good academic potential with a GPA of 2.0 to 3.0.

ROBERT L. SUBLETT CHEMISTRY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: Students
enrolled in either approved or non-approved American Chemical Society curriculum are eligible for this $800 award and applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a U.S. citizen. Financial need may be considered.

JOSEPH BEDFORD HIX SCHOLARSHIP: First-year students from Jackson or Putnam Counties who are studying Pre-Medicine may apply for this $700 scholarship.

CHEMISTRY SCHOLARSHIP: All incoming students are eligible for this $800 award.

FERRIS U. FOSTER SCHOLARSHIP: Students who have a concentration in American Chemical Society may apply for this $400 scholarship.

JOHN T. SKINNER SCHOLARSHIP: Students who have a concentration in American Chemical Society may apply for this $500 award. Sophomores will receive preference.

VERNON ALLEN SCHOLARSHIP: All incoming students who will concentrate in
American Chemical Society are eligible for this $1000 award.

MARY PATTERSON SCHOLARSHIP: First-year Computer Science majors are
eligible for this award.

English

FRANCIS SAVAGE TAYLOR SCHOLARSHIP: Students who were raised in small towns in middle Tennessee should apply for this $1,500 award. Scholastic work will be considered, but students do not necessarily need an "A" average.

CHARLES DENSON DANIEL MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: Juniors and seniors who are in good standing with the university should apply for this $500 scholarship. The committee selects a recipient every spring semester.

English - Forensics

HERMAN PINKERTON SCHOLARSHIP: Forensic team members are qualified for this $1,195 award. Selections for the award will be based on nominations from the director of the forensic program.

UNIVERSITY SPEECH SCHOLARSHIPS: Any student who has a talent in speaking and is active in intercollegiate speech tournaments may apply for this $1,195 award.

English-Journalism

SIDNEY MCGEE JOURNALISM SCHOLARSHIP: This award in the range of $400 is given to two students who play active roles in the university’s media.

THOMAS WEITZEL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: All students with an interest in broadcasting may apply for this $500 scholarship.

English - Professional Communication

KAY G. BALLEW SCHOLARSHIP: Any student enrolled in Professional Communication may apply for this $1,195 award.

MCGILL AND MAXINE DEBERRY VADEN SCHOLARSHIP: Incoming students majoring in Professional Communication are eligible for this $1,000 award. Students need to have a high school or transfer GPA of 3.0 or a 2.5 GPA at TTU.

Foreign Languages

WILBUR RAATZ SCHOLARSHIP: First-year students majoring in Foreign Languages may apply for this scholarship valued at $2,000. Applicants must have a composite ACT score of 28 and a minimum 3.5 high school GPA.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE DEPARTMENTAL ASSISTANT AWARD: Recipients of
this $1,000 award must have an interest in and a skill for second language tutoring. A selection will be made based on recommendations from Foreign Language and English teachers.

DAVID LLOYD AND SHIRLEY MAE GEHMAN SCHOLARSHIP: Juniors and
seniors who have a minimum 2.5 GPA qualify for this $250 scholarship. Students must be majoring in either a foreign language or music. Priority will be given to graduates of York Institute and residents of Fentress County.

FOREIGN LANGUAGES FACULTY SCHOLARSHIP: Students who have a
minimum 3.0 GPA from high school (incoming freshmen) or a 3.0 in college (former recipients) may apply for this $1,000 award. Financial aid may be considered, but it is not required.

Geology

LONNIE GLASSCOCK, SR. SCHOLARSHIP: Students who were raised in small towns in middle Tennessee should apply for this $1,500 award. Scholastic work will be considered, but students do not necessarily need an “A” average.

WALTER L. HELTON ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP: The recipient of this $1,000 award will be considered on the grounds of academics, financial need, and the potential to be successful geologists. The number of awards and the amount of each depend on the available funding.

DAVID SHEPARD SCHOLARSHIP: This $500 scholarship is provided by the Middle Tennessee Gem and Mineral Society. Junior and senior geology majors who have successfully completed the mineralogy course sequence (GEOL 211-212) are eligible to apply.

TTU EARTH SCIENCES ALUMNI ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: Recipients of this award will be considered on the grounds of academics, financial need, and the potential to be successful geologists. The number of awards and the amount of each depend on the available funding.

History

HISTORY FACULTY SCHOLARSHIP: Incoming freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are eligible for this $1,000 scholarship. The recipient will be chosen based on a 250-word essay concerning career plans.

THE HISTORY LECTURE SERIES AND ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: Students who have both academic scholarship and financial need may apply for this scholarship. The number of awards and the amount of each depend on the available funding.

B.F. JONES SCHOLARSHIP: All history majors who are in good standing with the university may apply for this $1,000 award.

MARION HOOD LANGLOIS ENDOWED HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP: Students who exhibit excellent academic scholarship qualify for this $2,000 scholarship. Financial need may be considered, but it is not required.

LEONARD DUNAVIN MATHEMATICS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: All incoming freshmen from the Upper Cumberland region may apply for this $500 scholarship.

ANGELO AND JENNETTE VOLPE SCHOLARSHIP: All first-year mathematics majors are eligible for this $500 award. Applicants must show financial need.

Physics

PHYSICS SCHOLARSHIP: Students majoring in Physics should apply for this award in the range of $400. Three letters of recommendation are required. Priority will be given to currently enrolled Physics majors.

FREDRICK L. CULP PHYSICS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: Incoming freshmen who major in physics should apply for this $1,200 scholarship. Three letters of recommendation are required from persons not related to the applicant. Students must show scholastic achievement through an official high school transcript and ACT/SAT scores. A recipient must also show abilities in areas related to physics. If an incoming freshman is not available for the award, a current major will be considered.

ALGOOD AND ELIZABETH CARLEN SCHOLARSHIP: First-year Physics majors are eligible for this award. If a Physics major is not available, second priority will be given to a Mathematics major. The scholarship may be renewed providing a GPA of 3.0 each year. Annual value is $2,500.

PAUL AUSTIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: This $2,000 award is open to all incoming freshmen who are majoring in Physics. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and a composite score of 28 on the ACT.
