Transferring Files with WinQVT on Gemini

Download the Adobe PDF version for printing. You will need the free Acrobat Reader to view and print the file.

To download a file to your computer:

  1. At the VMS $ prompt, type sz filename.ext and press [ENTER] where filename.ext is the name of the file you will be downloading.
    Example:
    sz newgame.zip
    sz classes.txt

  2. A dialogue box titled Zmodem Download will open. If it does not automatically open, select Transfer­ Download­Zmodem

  3. If the file is an ASCII text file, select Text, otherwise select Binary

  4. The default directory for downloads is C:\WINQVT. To save the file in a different directory, edit the entry in Directory

  5. Click on Start; note that the button changes to "Minimize"

  6. When the download is complete, the Minimize button will change to OK!

  7. Click OK! and press [ENTER] once

To upload a file from your computer to the VAX:

  1. At the VMS $ prompt, type rz and press [ENTER]

  2. From the menu bar, select Transfer ­Upload­Zmodem

  3. In the File Name: field, type the name of the file to upload. If the file is in a different subdirectory, you will need to enter that information also. 
           Example:  myinfo.doc
                 c:\data\myinfo.doc
                 c:\temp\wp\classes.txt
  4. If the file is an ASCII text file, select Text, otherwise select Binary

  5. Click Start; note that the button changes to "Minimize"

  6. When the upload is complete, the Minimize button will change to OK!

  7. Click on OK! and press [ENTER] once
