The Borealis Wind Quintet has been acclaimed as one of America's preeminent chamber ensembles. The highest musical integrity, irresistible energy and five-fold charisma distinguish Borealis in the chamber music field. An evening-length work for singing actress and chamber music trio, based on the lives of three legendary Latin American women: Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, Salvadoran peasant activist Rufina Amaya and Argentinean poet Alfonsina Storni. Written by Marjorie Agosin and directed by Matthew Wright. Presented by Core Ensemble Chamber Music Theater.

Rhonda Larson - Flutist

Ms. Larson presents a program of music, primarily composed by her, which reflects the influence of various world musics. Her diversity, combined with her musical and technical wizardry, has begun a new generation for the flute as a leading voice in the music world. Ms. Larson continues to be recognized as a visionary force creating a refreshing hybrid music for the flute, including her versatility on an array of ethnic flutes from around the world.

Eva Amsler - Flutist

Ms. Amsler is a leading proponent of performing on the wooden flute, providing audiences with a chance to hear music of the 18th and 19th centuries played with a character those composers were writing for. Her concert will feature pieces played on the wood flute, representing a variety of western nationalites and styles.

Dr. Sin-Hsing Tsai is a professor of piano at the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga. A former student of Daniel Pollack, her program will feature works by prominent American composers.

Brass Spectacular featuring Snergy Brass Quintet

This concert will feature national, regional, and TTU brass performers in a concert chamber music and large-scale works for brass instruments (trumpets, horns, trombones, euphoniums, and tubas). The featured group, Synergy Brass Quintet, is a national touring ensemble represented by Radian Arts Productions.

Jim Snidero - Jazz Artist
Wattenbarger Auditorium
Mr. Snidero is a world class Jazz artist who also has the distinction of being a member of Frank Sinatra's Orchestra for four years. He is also one of the finest jazz educators in the country. His recordings have received critical acclaim by leading jazz critics. Several have received 4 stars in Downbeat Magazine, in which critics hailed Snidero as "a master musician" and "alto sax virtuoso."

This chamber ensemble features violin, clarinet and piano. They tour extensively, providing concerts and masterclasses aroung the world. The trio has also recorded dozens of albums.

Toby Foyeh & Orchestra Africa will present "Harmony: People of African Origin"

Toby Foyeh & Orchestra Africa play a fusion of modern Nigerian music (Afrobeat, Highlife & traditional Yoruba Music) with Jazz. The band has performed at these Jazz Festivals to date, Fuji Rock Festival, Niigata Japan in 2006, Montreal Jazz Festival, Toronto Jazz Festival (twice 2001 & 2003), Detroit International Jazz Festival, Syracuse Jazz Festival, Curacao Jazz Festival, Grenada Jazz Festival, Jamica Ocho Rios Jazz Festival and more. They also performed several European festivals in 2005 and many others in the U.S. All together the band has performed in 4 continents, about 40 Universities in the U.S., at Performing Art Centers and City Festivals.
The band leader has musical perforomance experience of up to 20 years, plus a college musical education at Berklee College of Music Boston and Howard University Washington DC.
Two of the dancers were previously performing with the National Dance Troupe of Nigeria.

"Trombones de Costa Rica, ensemble-in-residence of the National Auditorium of Costa Rica and winners of the 1999 Special Prize of the City of Passau in Germany and the 1997 National Music Award, is one of the most interesting and exotic brass ensembles of the American continent. Since its foundation in 1991 the group has characterized itself for its clear projection to different audiences with informative and exciting recitals that include classical, jazz, contemporary and Latin music.
TCR has traveled extensively throughout the American continent, the Caribbean and Europe. In addition to ensemble recitals, TCR has performed as guest soloist ensemble with major ensembles such as the Costa Rican National Symphony, the United States Army Band, the Oregon State University Symphonic Band, the Carroll College Wind Ensemble, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ecuador, San Jose National Band and the University of Costa Rica Wind Ensemble."

Stephen Beus - Pianist

Mr. Beus is recognized as one of the finest of the new generation of American virtuoso piano soloists. He is the 2006 Max I. Allen Classical Fellow of the American Pianists Association, winning one of two $75,000 fellowships in April 2006 at the Finals in Indianapolis. In June 2006, he subsequently won the Gold Medal at the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in Salt Lake City, and in July 2006 at the Vendome International Piano Competition in Lisbon, Portugal.

The Alexander Technique addresses improving physical performance efficiency and reducing anxiety levels for musicians, athletes, and those who do presentations, e.g. speeches. Over the last two decades, the Alexander Technique has become increasingly endorsed and applied by many leading professionals as a practical and proven approach to improving performance capabilities.
John Henes is a musician, a performer and a master teacher. He is certified by the society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique in London, England and has taught the Alexander Technique both privately and in workshops for more than 20 years. http://www.johnhenes.com
