Pre-Professional Program
The minimum requirement for admission into a medical school is three years of undergraduate coursework, however, almost all students will have completed a four-year degree program prior to beginning medical school. The following options exist at Tennessee Tech:
(1) complete three years of undergraduate work including specific medical school requirements at Tennessee Tech, apply and if admitted, complete the clinical program and receive a degree from the medical school (no degree from Tennessee Tech),
(2) complete three years of specified courses in the pre-medical concentration of the "Applied Chemistry" Curriculum at Tennessee Tech, apply, and if admitted, receive a B.S. degree in chemistry from Tennessee Tech after successfully completing one year of medical school (an M.D. is awarded from the medical school after completion of the 4-year clinical program), or
(3) begin in the pre medical curriculum (non degree) at Tennessee Tech and later change into a degree granting curriculum to receive a B.S. from Tennessee Tech, then apply for admission into medical school. Be aware that 98-100 % of those accepted into a medical school will have completed option (3).
