Chemistry Scholarships

When you apply to Tennessee Tech, you will have the opportunity to complete an application form for a University Academic Scholarship (UAS). The UAS covers full payment of your maintenance fees, currently $2,490 per semester. Residents of Tennessee pay no tuition. On the scholarship application form or university application form there will be a place where you check your anticipated major. If you check Chemistry major, you will receive consideration for an additional scholarship for incoming freshmen. Even if you do not obtain the UAS scholarship, you still may qualify for one of our Chemistry freshmen scholarships, which are typically somewhere between $500 per semester up to the amount of full maintenance fees. If you remain a Chemistry major in subsequent years, we also have numerous upperclassmen scholarships for which you may qualify. You must apply for these scholarships ANNUALLY by the published deadline each year, regardless of whether or not you were previously awarded a scholarship.

Below is a list of scholarships that are available to students majoring in Chemistry and/or the Health Sciences Pre-Professional Program. Several awards are often made within each endowment. For more information, please visit the TTU Scholarships site . >

CHEMISTRY-MEDICAL SCIENCES CLUB ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:
This award is open to all students studying in the Health Sciences who have demonstrated leadership skills and are members of the Chemical Medical Sciences Club.

HOWARD G. ASHBURN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:
Students in good standing with the university qualify for this award. Applicants must have completed three semesters of study, two at TTU, and maintained a 3.0 GPA. A student must be a U.S. citizen to apply.

LELA M. BLANKENSHIP ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:
Sophomores, juniors, and seniors may apply for this award. All students in good standing with the university who have a 3.0 GPA qualify for the scholarship. Financial need may be considered in the selection.

JAMES POWELL AND WILLIE RUSH JEWELL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:
Students who have completed two semesters in Chemistry at TTU are eligible for this award. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and be in good standing with the university. Students must be U.S. citizens in order to apply. Financial need may be considered.

BOB OGLESBY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:
Any student pursuing a degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering may apply for this scholarship, including incoming new students. This scholarship is awarded to Chemistry and Chemical Engineering majors in alternate years. The recipient must have good academic potential with a GPA between 2.0 and 3.0 if currently attending TTU.

ROBERT L. SUBLETT CHEMISTRY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:
Prospective or current students enrolled in either approved or non-approved American Chemical Society curricula are eligible for this award and the applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a U.S. citizen. Financial need may be considered.

DR. and MRS. JOSEPH BEDFORD HIX MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:
Incoming students from Jackson or Putnam County High School are given priority over current TTU students. Recipients must be full-time students. Preference is also given to students that declare a major in pre-medical subjects.

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS:
All incoming and current students who declare a major in an ACS-approved chemistry curriculum are eligible for these awards.

FERRIS U. FOSTER MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: Must be a chemistry major who has completed at least 3 semesters of course study. The recipient must have a QPA of at least 2.5 overall and 2.00 in first attempted Chemistry courses.

JOHN T. SKINNER SCHOLARSHIP: All chemistry majors are eligible for this award, however, sophomores will receive preference.

VERNON ALLEN MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:
Recipients must be chemistry majors and the ACS curriculum is preferred. Incoming freshmen that have demonstrated good performance and good citizenship in high school receive preference. This scholarship is also awarded to ACS chemistry majors that are accepted into the 4+1 (BS/MS) fast-track program.

DR. JUNE PETERS ALMY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:
Recipients must be either Pre-Nursing/Nursing or Pre-Medicine majors. A major in chemistry is not required.

LEROY HARKINS MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:
Must be pursuing a curriculum leading to a B.S. degree in Medical Technology or Applied Chemistry with emphasis in Medical Technology. Recipient must have completed at least 3 semesters of college training, the last 2 at Tennessee Tech and have a QPA of at least 2.5 in all subjects.

DR. JAMES R. AND DR. WILLIAM L. HEADRICK PRE-HEALTH SCIENCES ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:
Recipient must be a sophomore, junior or senior in good standing enrolled in a pre-professional human health program. Priority will be given to students majoring in pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-pharmacy and pre-optometry. First priority will be given to varsity athlete. Students with the greatest financial need will also receive priority.

WILLIAM L. HARPER ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:
Recipients must be prospective or current students in good standing at the University that pursue a chemistry degree. If the award is a continuing award, they must maintain a 2.5 QPA and remain chemistry majors. First priority is given to students from Morgan County , followed by the surrounding counties. The recipient must also demonstrate financial need.

COOKEVILLE EVENING LIONS CLUB ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:
Recipients must be prospective or current students in good standing in accordance with current institutional policies. They must pursue a course of study in pre-medicine or pre-optometry.

ALVIN W. BOYD ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:
Recipients must be prospective or current students in good standing pursuing entrance to pharmacy school. They must major in pre-pharmacy.

DR. AND MRS. J. FRED TERRY MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:
Recipients must be prospective or current students in good standing in accordance with institutional policies. The student must be enrolled in the pre-medicine course of study.

ALVIN AND HILDA SINGER MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARHIPS:
Recipients must be prospective or current students in good standing pursuing degrees in chemistry, biology, physics and earth sciences and be a US citizen. Priority will be given to students demonstrating the greatest financial need. Initial annual award onsiderations will be made to qualified applicants who are members of the Jewish faith, with additional applicants considered secondary. Previous recipients are encouraged to reapply annually.
