    Greetings from the College of Business!

    We just finished another very productive year here in the college and want to share some of our stories with you. We also received national recognition this past year in two areas - our college was named by the Princeton Review as one of the "Best 237 Business Schools" in the world; additionally, the Distance MBA program was ranked #7 in the nation as a "Best Buy" for online MBA programs.     COB junior represents TTU at 109th NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships and named All-American by Golfworld.com.

    Scott Stallings, junior business management, earned one of two spots for individuals at the 109th NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships held at Crosswater Golf Course in Sunriver, Ore. May 31st through June 3rd.

    Scott narrowly missed the final round of the championships coming up short by one stroke in his third round. He tied for 30th place among players in the field.

    Faculty Award
    Timmerman wins top university teaching award

    Dr. Tom Timmerman, associate professor of management, has been selected as one of the 2006 TTU Outstanding Faculty in Teaching Award.

    Timmerman's students often realize just how valuable his teaching is when they put what they learned into practice on internship assignments or full-time jobs.

    Faculty Retirement
    Professor retires after 30 years of service

    Dr. Rodney Carlson, professor in the Department of Decision Sciences and Management, retired at the end of the Spring Semester after 27 years of faithful service. Before coming to Tech, he taught at Louisiana State University and Auburn University. He served on numerous college and university committees.

    For over 15 years, he was the driving force behind Beta Gamma Sigma, the business honors society. Under his leadership, the TTU chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma was named a 2005 Premium Chapter by the national office of the organization. Fondly called "Father Quantoid" by his students, Dr. Carlson taught operations, quant, and statistics at TTU. On behalf of the College of Business family and his former students, we wish him all the best on his future endeavors!


    Club Achievement
    TTU Marketing Club recognized by American Marketing Association

    Marketing students from Tennessee Tech University represented themselves well at this year’s International American Marketing Association Collegiate Conference in Orlando, Fla.

    The 14-student club received awards for excellence in chapter planning and communications and was also selected as a finalist for the O. Karl Mann Web Site Award.

    MBA Graduate named Director of Minority Affairs

    When Robert Owens arrived on campus March 1 to begin his duties as Tennessee Tech University's new minority affairs director, he came full circle back to the place where he matured as a person and an educator.

    Owens, a Murfreesboro native, earned three degrees at TTU while staying active in campus organizations and taking on leadership roles. Owens earned his bachelor's degree in industrial and manufacturing engineering with a mathematics minor in 1998, then went on to earn an MBA and Ed.S. from Tennessee Tech.

    Classroom Dedication
    Burks family honors matriarch with Johnson Hall classroom renovation

    A recently renovated classroom in Johnson Hall conveys one local family's dedication to education and its admiration for its matriarch.

    The recent dedication of The Christine Gilliam Burks Classroom served to highlight two celebrations: one in honor of a well-respected area businesswoman and one for the continued success of donor support for renovating the College of Business signature building.
