2009-2010 Faculty Research

  • The COB faculty had a very productive year with 52 articles and other creative works published, 93 works in process, 36 presentations made at regional or national meetings, and 44 faculty extension and outreach activities related to field of expertise.
  • Dr. Ismet Anitsal coauthored eight manuscripts that were either published or accepted for publication in the following journals:  Business Studies Journal, Academy of Marketing Studies Journal, Journal of International Business Research, Journal of Behavioral Studies in Business, Academy of Educational Leadership Journal, Academy of Strategic Management Journal, and Journal of Management and Marketing Research.  He is also currently working on two research grants.  In October, Dr. Anitsal was awarded the Distinguished Research Award by Academy for Studies in International Business and Creative and Innovative Teaching Award by Academy of Educational Leadership.  He was also given an award of appreciation for serving as editor of the Academy of Marketing Studies.  Dr. Anitsal currently serves on the editorial review board for eight journals, and is the retailing section editor for the Journal of Applied Marketing Theory.
  • Dr. M. Meral Anitsal coauthored eight articles in Journal of Management and Marketing Research, Academy of Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Educational Leadership Journal, Journal of Behavioral Studies in Business, Journal of International Business Research, Business Studies Journal, and Academy of Marketing Studies Journal. She also received two research grants. She has been awarded the Distinguished Research Award by Academy for Studies in International Business. She currently serves on the editorial review boards of five journals in marketing and business education.
  • Dr. Bonita Barger published in the Academy of Educational Leadership Journal and the Journal of International Business and Cultural Studies.  Dr. Bonita Barger made a presentation to the Academy of Educational Leadership on the impact of on-line and
    on-ground courses.
  • Dr. Ferdinand DiFurio has conducted an economic impact study entitled “The Economic Impact of Tennessee Tech University on the Upper Cumberland Region”, resulting in a coauthored a manuscript which was presented at the International Conference for the American Institute of Higher Education. He also received and implemented a QEP grant for his econometrics course this past spring.
  • Dr. Melanie Earles published one article in Journal of Accountancy.

  • Dr. Robert Elmore presented a paper at the 21st Asian-Pacific Conference on International Accounting Issue in November.  He also published an article in Academy of Educational Leadership Journal, Allied Academies International Conference with
    I. Anitsal and M. Anitsal in November.
  • Drs. Tor Guimaraes, Curtis Armstrong, and Brian Jones published a paper in the Quality Management Journal.
  • Dr. Tor Guimaraes published in International Journal of Health Care Quality Assurance and the Journal of Bank Cost & Management Accounting He also presented a research report, co-authored with James E. Ryan, R. Kelly Rainer, Jr., Mikko Ruohonen, and Timo Auer, at the International Conferences Academic Business World—Learning and Administration, 2010 Nashville, TN, June 1, 2010.  The paper received the best paper award.
  • Dr. Tor Guimaraes was a keynote speaker at the IABPAD Conference speaking on Increasing Academic Research Relevance and Productivity.  Dr. Guimaraes was the Contemporary Business Issues/Management Session Chair at the IABPAD Conference.  He also presented a research report co-authored with Intel corporate manager Ketan Paranjape at the conference.
  • Dr. Steve Isbell presented three papers at the Financial Education Association.  One of the papers was later accepted for publication in the Journal of Economics and Economic Education Research.  In addition, he authored and presented a paper at the Missouri Valley Economics Association.  He attended the National Center for Academic Transformation’s annual Redesign Alliance on behalf of the Technology Institute.
  • Dr. Jon Jonakin had one refereed paper accepted in International Migration.  He also has had a paper accepted for presentation at an upcoming conference.
  • Dr. Linda Lerner published a paper in the Journal of International Business and Cultural Studies and the Proceedings of the International Academy of Business and Public Administration Disciplines Conference.
  • Kevin Liska, Amanda Brown (student), Ismet Anitsal, and Meral Anitsal published a paper in the Academy for Studies in Business.
  • Dr. Deryl Martin had a paper accepted for presentation at the Financial Education Association meeting.
  • Dr. Nat Natarajan published in Proceedings National Annual Meeting of the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI) and the Proceedings of the third conference of Indian Subcontinent Region of Decision Sciences Institute (ISDSI).  The second was recognized as the second best paper presented at the conference.  In addition, he  served on the editorial board of the Journal of Quality Management.
  • Dr. Mary Pashley presented a paper at the American Society of Business and Behavioral Sciences meetings in February 2010.  The paper was published in the Society’s Proceedings.
  • Dr. Julie Pharr presented and published a paper related to sustainable marketing at the annual conference of the Association of Marketing Theory and Practice in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Dr. Pharr published a paper in the Proceedings of the Academy of Business Disciplines at its annual meeting in Ft. Myers Beach, FL in November 2009.
  • Drs. Rodley Pineda, Linda Lerner, and Bonita Barger published in the Journal of Education for Business.
  • Dr. Rodley Pineda published in the Journal of International Business and Cultural Studies.
  • Dr. Magdalena Rappl had two refereed journal publications and one paper presentation at a professional meeting.
  • Dr. Bruce Throckmorton serves on the Editorial Review Board of Journal of Business and Economic Perspectives.
  • Dr. Tom Timmerman made a presentation to the Southeastern Psychological Association.
  • Dr. Stuart Wells was the keynote speaker at the KACE Fall Meeting in Burkesville, Kentucky on Computer Forensics.
  • Dr. Ken Wiant had a research paper, with Marcus T. Allen, and Charles C. Carter, accepted for publication at Journal of Business Disciplines.  He presented three papers at the Finance Education Association annual conference during the fall term.
