On Friday afternoon August, 23, the ceremony will begin promptly at 3:00pm (cdt). We ask all participants and guests to arrive and be seated in the Hooper Eblen Center by 2:45pm. UNIV 1020 (or equivalent course) peer mentors will contact freshmen to set up a time to meet prior to Convocation and attend as a class. Student Orientation Assistants will be in the concourse area to assist with line-up and seating. As you file into the arena and get to your row, these personnel will be standing by to ensure that each row is filled and everyone has a seat. A program will be provided for the event so guests and students may follow along and know when to stand.
The convocation program will begin with the macebearer leading the processional. The macebearer is followed by the President, Provost, remaining platform party, and the faculty. Faculty will split into 2 lines when they arrive at their reserved seats in the stands.
The University President, Dr. Philip Oldham, will have an opening statement then give the keynote address. The President will then extend appreciation to the faculty, guests, and others involved with the ceremony.
Dr. Bahman Ghorashi, Provost Vice President for Academic Affairs, will lead the new students in the TTU Academic Oath of Integrity.
Following TTU Oath of Integrity, the president will induct the students, share the "TTU Promise" with freshmen, and then issue the students a challenge to complete during the semester they are to graduate.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, The Pride of Tennessee Tech Marching Band will march onto the floor of the Hooper Eblen Center to perform some selected pieces that are steeped in TTU tradition. Following these selections, the band will lead everyone in singing the Tennessee Tech Hymn. After the hymn has concluded, the Marching Band will play the TTU Fight Song and then lead the freshmen in receeding the Hooper Eblen Center. Freshman will march to Overall Field at Tucker Stadium to take their class of photo. Guests will exit from the second floor of the Hooper Eblen Center and make their way to Dixie Avenue.
