Welcome to the Parents' Corner of the TTU Counseling Center web site! As our mission states, the Counseling Center is here to promote healthy student development for your son or daughter during the college experience. When you browse our web site, you will see that the Center provides academic, personal, and career counseling services designed to help your student succeed at the university. We know that parents are a key factor in student success and we are here to help you help them.
University life is about learning and we believe that counseling is a form of learning—learning strategies for handling problems and concerns that might otherwise interfere with achieving success. Sometimes college students find they are faced with stress or challenges that prevent them from reaching their potential. During those times of feeling overwhelmed or in crisis, they often turn to parents for help and advice. If this occurs, we at the Counseling Center want you to have information about resources on campus that are in place to help your daughter or son handle the problem.
In the Parents' Corner, we have attempted to provide you with a variety of resources that you may find helpful while your student attends TTU. We have provided a reading list of books which some parents of college students find helpful. In addition, if you are the parent of an incoming freshman here at TTU, we encourage you to read Tips for Parents of Incoming Freshmen. Finally, our Parents' FAQs page contains questions we are frequently asked by parents (and the answers, too, of course!).
With the wide range of services offered at the Counseling Center, it is very likely there will be something that can be helpful to your son or daughter. We hope that you will encourage him or her to come to the TTU Counseling Center if there is any way we can be of help.
