Artist in Residence (AIR)
General Position Description

The purpose of the Artist in Residence (AIR) program at the Appalachian Center for Craft is to provide a creative, residential environment for emerging professional artists and to broaden student and faculty awareness of new approaches and techniques.

Term of the Residency
Qualifications
August 18, 2008 - August 17, 2009; the resident may be invited back for up to two additional years at the request of the Craft Center. Applicants must have a minimum of a BFA degree or equivalent. MFA or professional experience equivalent preferred. The selection process will consider the candidate's potential artistic and professional growth within the residency, technical skills in studio and equipment maintenance, and potential for instructional support.

Residents work 20 hour per week in the studios.

Includes occasional teaching duties during facult absence. Residents will periodically provide demonstrations and/or participate in class discussions, mid-term and final critiques in the intermediate and advanced classes. Residents may be asked to teach workshops and/or academic classes and will be compensated for these courses.
Compensation
Application Process
Private bedroom and bath (cooking and living room areas shared with other residents) and individual studio space with 24-hour studio access. An annual stipend of $1,000 is provided. Resident artists also have opportunities to teach workshops, outreach programs and some university classes for monetary compensation.
