Join us for the Celebration of Craft! No matter your interest this FREE one-day event will awake the artist in kids of all ages so make a trip to the Craft Center and see what it's all about!

Adults and kids can sign up the day of the event on a first come, first-served basis. No preregistrations will be allowed. Registration will begin promptly at 9:30 am the day of the event in the main lobby. The prices listed below are per person/per workshop.

Blacksmithing: Hang It Up: Make a Forged Steel Hook, $25 (ages 14 and up)

Make metal move under your hammer and gain experience with the tools and techniques of the blacksmith while using gas and coal forges.

Class times: 10am-noon, noon-2pm and 2pm-4pm. Each class is limited to six participants only.

*NOTE: 100% cotton clothing and close-toed shoes suggested for students in the Blacksmithing studio.

Fibers: Marbling a Scarf, $20 (scarf included)

Learn marbling techniques to permanently transfer beautiful organic shapes to silk scarves.

Class times: All day. Those who register will be given a number, and students will be taken in order by number. We will have two stations serving one person at each at a time. Each scarf takes approximately 10 minutes.

Glass: Bead Making, $20 (ages 14 and up)

Make beads by holding glass rods over a flame then gently winding the molten glass over the mandrels. Make a necklace and earrings. Each class is limited to 10 participants.

Class times:10am to 12pm and 12pm to 2pm

 

Free Mini-Workshops include:

Creative Necklaces: Experience the joy of creating your own necklace made from yarn and found objects. (Ages 2 and up)

Felting a Bracelet: Explore resist techniques in wet felting and its limitless possibilities as you make a bracelet.

Origami: Learn origami folds to create 3D sculptures that can move into space.

Photography: Experience the feel of the darkroom as you create & develop your own abstract photogram. (Ages 2 and up)

 

 

 

        11:00-1:00 The Danberry's will play their energetic style of music!

        1:30-4:30 The Flea Market Hustlers will get you moving!

All proceeds from the Celebration of Craft directly support the Appalachian Center for Craft's educational art outreach programs, serving students in Tennessee's Upper Cumberland Region.
