The Appalachian Center for Craft's five full-time faculty members are nationally and internationally renowned and respected craft artists in the fields of Clay (Vince Pitelka), Fibers (Jeanne Brady), Glass (Curtiss Brock), Metals (Robert Coogan) and Wood (Graham Campbell).

All faculty members have Masters of Fine Arts degrees in their fields and are extremely active exhibiting their work, teaching workshops, publishing, professional craft organizations, in addition to teaching and personal studio work.

For specific program information regarding Bachelor of Fine Arts degree concentrations, Craft Certificates and Artist Residencies in clay, fibers, glass, metals and wood, please contact the appropriate faculty member.


CLAY

Vince Pitelka, Professor

Vince Pitelka has an M.F.A. in ceramics from the University of Massachusetts and a B.A. from Humboldt State University. He exhibits his work and teaches workshops nationwide and is recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. His column "Tooltimes" appears bimonthly in Clay Times magazine; his book, Clay: A Studio Handbook is available from the American Ceramic Society.

FIBERS

Jeanne Brady, Associate Professor

Jeanne Brady has an M.F.A. in Surface and Textile Design and a B.F.A. in Printmaking/Drawing from East Carolina University. She teaches workshops at the Craft Center, Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts and in Cologne, Germany. Brady exhibits her work nationally and internationally, has received numerous awards, and has been published in American Craft, Surface Design Journal, and Fiberarts Design Book Seven, and in several bookmaking journals.

GLASS

Curtiss Brock, Professor

Curt Brock has an M.F.A. in sculpture from the University of Illinios and a B.F.A. from Goddard College. He teaches at the Pilchuck Glass School, Penland School of Crafts, and has lectured extensively in the U.S. and Japan. Brock' work is widely exhibited , including numerous solo shows. His work appears in over 25 national and international museum collections.

METALS

Robert Coogan, Professor

Robert Coogan has been the head of the Metals Department at the Appalachian Center for Craft since 1981. He received an M.F.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a B.A. from Humboldt State University, as well as a Fulbright Fellowship to teach in England. His work is exhibited nationally and internationally, he teaches workshops throughout the U.S., Korea and England, and he is featured in numerous books and publications.

WOOD

Graham Campbell, Professor

Graham Campbell studied furniture making at the Wendell Castle School and received an M.F.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University. He taught at both schools prior to joining the Craft Center faculty in 1990. His contemporary furniture is included in several corporate and private collections. His work has been published in Designing Furniture by Seth Stern and Scratching the Surface by Michael Hosaluk.
