About
the Wood Program
Students in the program gain the skills and knowledge
necessary to become professional woodworkers. The B.F.A. wood concentration
is a series of seven classes in drawing, design and woodworking,
in addition to classes in other craft media and liberal arts studies.
Some assignments are focused on primary furniture
forms including chairs, tables and cabinets; others involve major
technical areas such as joinery, bending, veneering, turning, shaping
and finishing. All projects build on a student's design skills and
develop a personal style.
The program is enhanced by a full-time, highly qualified
resident artist. Visiting artists, workshop lecturers and studio/gallery
visits further enrich the program.
