Learn billet construction and preparation, forge welding, pattern manipulation, composite blades, and finishing. Explore uses for pattern-welded steel including: blades, jewelry and sculpture. Scott Lankton reproduced the Sutton Hoo Sword for the British Museum in London. He enjoys making composite patterns and larger blades.

Explore the figure motif as a source of personal expression. Address the symbolic use of the figure in various cultures, ancient and contemporary. Use various handbuilding techniques to create forms, with a concentration on the coil method. Also, carve on the leather-hard clay surface. All skill levels

Donna Polseno studied ceramics at the Kansas City Art Institute with Ken Ferguson and at the Rhode Island School of Design. A studio artist in Floyd, VA, she has received several grants, honors, and has taught classes in the U.S., Europe and China.

Create a series of bracelets and collars from sheet metal (nugold, silver or copper). Experiment with ways to add texture and change the form of a metal pattern with the rolling mill. Transform the patterns into bracelets and collars with synclastic, anticlastic, and other forming techniques. Intermediate; Materials Fee $70, payable to instructor
