the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department
Tennessee Tech's Department of Electrical and Computer
Engineering offers two solid undergraduate programs that emphasize
the fundamentals of electrical engineering and enable graduates
to enter the workforce with confidence. Undergraduate curricula
are offered that lead to Bachelor of Science degrees in electrical
engineering (B.S.E.E.) or computer engineering (B.S.CmpE.). Both
degrees are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering
and Technology (ABET). Advanced studies leading to the Master of
Science (M.S.) in Electrical Engineering and the Doctor of Philosophy
(Ph.D.) in engineering are available.
With about 320 undergraduate and 60 graduate students,
the department is one of the largest in the College of Engineering.
All 17 faculty
members hold doctorates and one has a joint appointment
in one of three Centers of Excellence. These centers have brought
the university international recognition and provide unique opportunities
for electrical and computer engineering undergraduates to participate
in center-related projects.
Students from the Department of Electrical and Computer
Engineering are known throughout the Southeast for their enthusiastic
participation
in professional organizations and events. The student chapter
of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
is
one of the most active student organizations on campus. It
offers a multitude of activities, social and professional,
and successfully
competes with other universities in the professional and technical
contests offered through the IEEE Southeastern Conference held
each year. Officers in the IEEE student chapter and Eta Kappa
Nu, an honor society for electrical engineering students, develop
leadership
and communication skills invaluable in today's job market.
The department takes pride in producing well-rounded, professionally
competent graduates. |
