Welcome from the Chair
Within these web pages, you will find information about various aspects of our department: faculty & staff; student organizations; research groups and projects; the department's history, mission, and goals; our BS, MS, and PhD degree programs; our laboratory facilities; and administrative policies and procedures. The Tech ECE Department has a distinguished faculty, dedicated staff, highly motivated students, and accomplished alumni. Our mission is to provide quality education and training in electrical and computer engineering so that our graduates will make significant contributions to the electrical and computer engineering profession. We are continually updating our curriculum, research directions, and programs to better meet the needs of industry and society.
The Tech ECE Department offers two accredited degree programs at the baccalaureate level, BS in electrical engineering (BSEE) and BS in computer engineering (BSCmpE), an MSEE program and a Ph.D. in engineering with electrical engineering specialization. The department has 15 faculty members, one engineer, one technician, and three secretarial staff members. All our faculty members have doctoral degrees from institutions such as UT-K, Georgia Tech, IIT, Illinois, Penn State, and Wisconsin. Several are licensed professional engineers, Fellows of professional societies, associate editors of professional journals, authors of text books, and consultants with various industries. Each year we have external research grants totaling over $1.5 million. We have a distinguished 25-member Industry Advisory Board to provide direction and guidance to the department for continual improvement.
Since 1942, the Tech ECE department has produced more than 2,000 graduates who have been employed by many companies such as: IBM, Intel, TVA, Boeing, Square D, Proctor & Gamble, NSWC, AEDC, Dynetics, Denso, Northrup Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Toshiba, and Saturn. These graduates have earned a reputation for their superior knowledge, for their leadership skills, for their ability to contribute quickly, and for their work ethic. One recent graduate writes: "After graduating from Tech and encountering many people with engineering degrees from other universities, I can say that no other university even compares to the level of knowledge, teaching, friendliness, and professionalism that I was shown at Tech. Every Tech grad that I encounter is the most prepared and most confident person in his or her office. I can honestly say today that I am very proud of my degree and I recommend Tennessee Tech to anyone I encounter who is seeking an ECE degree."
Our vision is to be a vibrant, nationally-recognized ECE program, while continuing to provide the friendly, nurturing atmosphere that has endeared our alumni to this special place. If you are a prospective student or just interested in learning more about Tech ECE, I would like to personally invite you to come and visit us!
