Alex-web is a web-based version of the Alexandria Library Database currently used in the Learning Resource Center. Alex-web will allow LRC patrons to search for books and other educational materials found in the LRC. You will also find Library Information, Web Links, and Bulletins from the LRC staff. Alex-web is limited on the amount of simultaneous connections via the internet. If you encounter problems connecting with the program, try again after a certain amount of time has passed. Any user that has been entered into the LRC patron database can login using his/her e-mail address as the username and last name as the password. With this feature, you can:

  • create a list of books (called a basket) that you wish to check out
  • place a hold (for immediate pick up) or reservation (for a specific date range) on items
  • view your details to see what items you have checked out and when they are due back, and what holds and reservations you have placed

LRC Library Policies

  • The LRC Library is located in Bartoo Hall, room 204.
  • Students may borrow up to eight items for a period of two weeks. You may renew most items if another student is not waiting for them. Items may be renewed up to 3 times per semester.
  • Laptop computers are available to all patrons at the circulation desk for use in the LRC Library only. Desktop computers are also available in room 204A.
  • Education students may check out AV equipment upon filling out a borrower's agreement. Digital still and video cameras may be checked out overnight. Laptop computers may be checked out for 30 days. iPods, loaded with audiobooks if desired, are available for a one week checkout.
  • Student teachers and Graduate Assistants may check out laptops for an entire semester and PhD candidates may borrow laptops for up to one year (upon approval and pending borrower's agreement form).
  • Items placed on LRC Reserve may be checked out for 3 days unless specified otherwise. This includes materials held by professors for certain courses and test preparation materials.

LRC Library Policies for Overdue Items

  • Overdue notices for standard items (those with a 2 week check out period) will be sent out on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays via email. Any patron receiving an overdue notice will have a chance to respond to 3 successive emails before fines are processed and a hold is placed on his/her account. Patrons may renew overdue items up to three times during the semester provided no other patron has placed a hold on the items.
  • For AV equipment and LRC Reserve items, fines will accrue following a one day grace period. Notification of fines will be sent via email. AV equipment and LRC Reserve items cannot be renewed.
  • Failure to receive notification of overdue items does not absolve a borrower of library fine obligations.
  • Fines on standard and LRC Reserve items will accrue as follows: $2.00 flat rate per item plus $0.20 per item per day up to a maximum of $10.00 per item. Example: 4 items, 8 days overdue results in a $3.60 fine per item or a total fine of $14.40.
  • For AV equipment, fines will accrue as follows: $10.00 flat rate per item plus $1.00 per item per day up to a maximum of $50.00 per item. Example: 2 items, 3 days overdue results in a $13.00 fine per item or a total fine of $26.00.

F.Y.I.

  • The LRC Library is divided into two sections: a curriculum library (K-12 textbooks approved for use in Tennessee) and a children's library (easy books, novels, nonfiction books).
  • Items with call numbers beginning with TX are stored in the main room. They are organized by subject, then publisher, and then grade. Audio books, instructional DVDs and videocassettes, assistive technology items, Mailbox magazines, subject specific manipulatives, and pop-up books are also located in this room.
  • Textbooks may also be found in 204C.
  • The children's library (204B) houses books with call numbers E (easy), F (fiction), and CAL (Caldecott medal winners) organized mostly by author. Big books are located in green tubs in the cabinet underneath the shelves along the back wall and big book sets are found beside both windows. Biographies can be found along the wall between the two windows and are organized by the person they are written about. Books with a Dewey Decimal call number are arranged by subject around the walls of 204B.
  • The laptops provide wireless access to the Internet and printer.

LRC Work Room (Bartoo Hall 106B)

  • An Ellison machine (die-cut press) for bulletin board letters, etc. is available in 106B Bartoo Hall. A dry-mount press is also available to students for laminating (call 20 minutes in advance for faster service: 372-3852). Students must supply their own materials.
