New items:
- Over 200 new books donated by the Children's Choices program including One Million Things: A Visual Encyclopedia, No Girls Allowed: Tales of Daring Women Dressed as Men for Love, Freedom, and Adventure, and Bad Kitty Gets a Bath.
- We have new Language Arts, Foreign Language, ESL, and Communications textbooks in the LRC Library this year. This means that our holdings will not match what is offered in the school systems ( we're a year ahead).
- We now have a total of 32 iPods, 26 of which are iPod Touches, all available for 1 week checkout. Any of the titles in our audiobook collection may be loaded onto them as well. The iPod Touches have all been recently updated with the latest software, and can now access the App Store.
Computer Updates:
- All of the LRC computers now have a link to the new U Drive (Xythos). This web-based file storage system will be taking the place fo the old users drive that was available in all of the computer labs on campus. To access this drive off campus, just type files.tntech.edu into your web browser and sign in with your PCLab account. This new system will allow you to retrieve saved files from anywhere (on or off campus) and offers students 250 MB of storage space. For more info, go to: http://www2.tntech.edu/ITS/labs/UDrive/index.htm.
- All of our computers have the newest version of Microsoft Office (Office 2008) on them. If you create a document on our computers and just hit 'Save', it will only be readable within Office 2008 or 2007. If you want to be able to access a document on older versions of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, you need to go to 'File' then 'Save As' and choose the format: 'Word 97-2004 Document'. This will make your document/ presentation/ spreadsheet accessible on other versions of Office.
Updates to Alex-Web online database:
- You can now see pictures of items when you search in Alexandria online. When you click on a specific title, the details screen should show the picture of the item along with the publisher's information. All of the books in the easy and fiction sections have been updated with pictures. This will be an ongoing process throughout the semester.
- The Show Map feature is now available for all items housed in the Children's library room (204B). On the details screen for each item, you can click the Show Map link toward the bottom of the page to bring up a detailed map, pointing to the item's location within the room. This will also be an ongoing process throughout the semester and we should eventually have detailed maps for every item in the LRC.
