End of Semester Greetings

DR.RENCIS.HIGHLIGHTHi, I'm Joe Rencis, Dean of the College of Engineering at Tennessee Tech.

The fall semester is winding down right now, and I know everyone is working hard to complete their final papers, presentations, and other assignments.  If you are graduating, congratulations; you have every reason to feel proud.  You have reached a major milestone in your life and accomplished a goal very few others will achieve—earning a degree from the Tennessee Tech College of Engineering!

I strongly encourage all CoE freshmen, sophomores and juniors to visit the Innovation Showcase that will be held Tuesday, December 3 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the STEM CenterThe Showcase is a platform for discipline specific departmental and industry-sponsored projects  which gives ‘senior’ engineering, engineering technology and computer science students an opportunity to display their capstone projects and to answer questions about their research, design methods and capstone experience.  Senior engineering students spend one or two academic semesters on these projects, which culminate their undergraduate academic experience at TTU.  Cookies and punch will be provided!

For graduating undergraduate and graduate students, I would like to point out some important events to hold on the calendar:

  •  College of Engineering Social. The CoE Social will be held on Thursday, December 12 at approximately 4:45 PM immediately following the Commencement Practice (4:00 PM in Hoop) in the Multipurpose Room of the Fitness Center.  This will be a time for graduates to interact with fellow graduates, faculty and staff in the  CoE.  A CoE alumnus will provide some lasting thoughts as you graduate from TTU.  A gift will be provided on behalf of the CoE  alumni to each graduate who attends the social and completes the graduation survey.

  • Order of the Engineer Induction Ceremony. The Order of the Engineer Induction Ceremony will be held on Friday, December 13 at  300 PM in Derryberry Auditorium.  This ceremony is for engineering graduates to be inducted in the Order of the Engineer (http://www.order-of-the-engineer.org/). The deadline for signing up for the event is Wednesday, December 11. Please see Cynthia Davis at the main desk in Clement Hall 201 to sign up.

  • Department Commencement Luncheons. On Saturday, December 14, immediately following the commencement ceremony from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM, each CoE department will be hosting a commencement luncheon for graduates and their families and friends. This is a big day and a momentous event in your life and the faculty and staff wants to extend congratulations to you on this festive occasion.  Please contact your department office for the uncheon location and be sure to sign up by December 2.

Lastly, I’d like to note that this fall is historical for the CoE with total enrollment reaching 2,786 and undergraduate enrollment at 2,639, both all-time highs!

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to stop by my office in Clement Hall 201 or contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it "> This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  My door is always open, and we want to make sure you continue to have an enjoyable experience at TTU.
