Message from Dean Rencis
Dear Engineering, Engineering Technology & Computer Science Students,
My compliments on completing your coursework for another school year! I want you to know how impressed I am with all your diligence and hard work, and I hope this summer will be fun and fulfilling for you as you rest and recharge for fall semester, even those remaining on campus this summer. If you are graduating, congratulations; you have every reason to feel proud. You have reached a major milestone in your life and accomplished a goal very few others will achieve—earning a degree from the Tennessee Tech College of Engineering!
As you may already know, last year the College of Engineering (CoE) started the process to develop a shared strategic plan, with the goal of "2020 Destination à Eminence." The end game is "21st Century Renaissance Engineers Revolutionizing Engineering to Solve Societal Problems." Moving forward into next year, the College of Engineering’s research centers and departments will continue to put their focus on implementing and investing in three strategies: student-centered, student success, and student research. That means that as students, you are a crucial and necessary element in this equation, and we will be reaching out to you for your input and participation. Details regarding the strategic plan can be found at http://www.tntech.edu/engineering/strategicplan/.
For graduating undergraduate and graduate students, I would like to point out some important events to hold on the calendar:
- College of Engineering Social. The CoE Social will be held on Thursday, May 9th at approximately 4:45 PM right after the Commencement Practice (4:00 PM in Hoop) in the Multipurpose Room of the Fitness Center. This will be a time for graduates to interact with fellow graduates, faculty and staff in the CoE. A gift will be provided on behalf of the CoE alumni to each graduate who attends the social.
- Order of the Engineer Induction Ceremony. The Order of the Engineer Induction Ceremony will be held on Friday, May 10th at 3:00 PM in Derryberry Auditorium. This ceremony is for "engineering" graduates to be inducted in the Order of the Engineer (http://www.order-of-the-engineer.org/). The deadline for signing up for the event is Wednesday, May 8th. Please see Rita Reese at the main desk in Clement Hall 201.
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to stop by my office in Clement Hall 201 or contact me at
. My door is always open, and we want to make sure you continue to have an enjoyable experience at TTU.
Indeed, 2012-13 has been a year to remember, and 2013-14 promises to bring even greater progress for our TTU College of Engineering community as we continue to pursue an ambitious vision of excellence. I look forward to seeing you around campus this semester—in the meantime, best wishes for a productive and rewarding summer.
