English majors are eligible for the following departmental scholarships:

Barber, Joan Memorial Scholarship in English

Must be a current or prospective student full-time student in good standing; must be a new freshman, a transfer with a minimum of two years remaining before graduation, or a current holder of the Barber Scholarship who qualifies for renewal (one additional year if GPA, major, and British emphasis criteria are met); must have a minimum GPA of 3.3, including all high school and college courses; must major in English, with Literature concentration and emphasis in British literature and culture.

Bertram, Marshall and Thelma Liberal Arts Scholarship Endowment

Rotates with History and Foreign Languages.
Must be a prospective or current student in good standing in accordance with current institutional policies; must be of good character; must have, and maintain, a 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale; must be a liberal arts major in history, English, or foreign language. The award will be made to a full-time rising junior based on the student’s scholarship and achievements during the freshman and sophomore years. There are no geographical limitations on this award. Financial need may be considered, but is not a requirement for this scholarship.

Bode, Robert F. Memorial Scholarship in English

Must be a prospective or current student in good standing in accordance with current institutional policies; must be either an incoming freshman or rising sophomore English major who demonstrates academic excellence and promise based on her/his grade point average, which must be a minimum 3.0. Preference shall be given to the applicant who best demonstrates his/her ability to contribute to the cultural, religious, racial, ethnic, and/or sexual diversity of the student body through an essay to be judged by a committee of faculty members in English. This scholarship may be renewed on a yearly basis at the discretion of the department chair and the scholarship committee. The maximum renewal period of an incoming freshman is eight (8) semesters; six (6) semesters is the maximum renewal period for a rising sophomore.

Daniel, Charles Denson Memorial Scholarship Endowment

Must be a prospective or current student in good standing in accordance with current institutional policies; must be a junior or senior English major.

Jenkins, William W., Creative Writing Scholarship (click for guidelines)

Must be a current undergraduate student in good standing in accordance with current institutional policies and majoring in a field within the Department of English and Communications. Must have completed one or more creative writing courses at TTU before or during the award period. A portfolio of creative work is required for consideration.

Jenkins, William W., Theatre Scholarship

Must be a current or prospective student majoring in a field within the Department of English and Communications and in good standing in accordance with current institutional policies, with a significant record of participation in, and contribution to, the Theatre program at TTU.

Taylor, Francis Savage Scholarship in English

Must major in English; should be from one of the small towns in the Middle Tennessee area; should have an aptitude for college work, not necessarily an "A" average; must be a currently enrolled student.
