Admission Information and Degree Requirements
Students seeking admission to Full Standing in the

Environmental
Sciences Ph.D. - Chemistry Concentration must have a Bachelor s
Degree in Chemistry that has been certified by the American
Chemical Society or course work equivalent to this degree. The
minimum requirement is one year each of general, analytical,
organic, and physical chemistry; one semester each of inorganic
and instrumental analysis; and three semesters of calculus.
Students lacking any of the prerequisites will be admitted to
Provisional Standing and required to take prerequisites before
being admitted to full standing.
Once admitted to the program the following general
requirements must be met to successfully complete the Ph.D.
Program. Each of the following is exhaustively described in The
Handbook.
Successful Completion of your Program of Study (See Course

Pass a Comprehensive Examination
Successful Defense of Dissertation
Course Requirements
Major Core Courses - 12 hrs
7000-level courses in Environmental Chemistry (12 hours)

Electives (18 hours)
Research and Dissertation - 18-24 hrs
Total hr. 61 (18 hr. from M.S. can be used subject to
committee approval.)
