Applying for
Financial Aid 1010
Parents and students should apply for a federal PIN.
This enables students to apply for federal and state aid more quickly
than using a paper form. The PIN will be used each year in completing
the FAFSA, checking out aid previously received, looking at the
student's loan history, etc. It's quick and easy to apply at www.pin.ed.gov.
If you've applied previously for a PIN and forgotten it, this site
will tell you how to find it again.
There are very few hard and fast DEADLINES for need based financial aid. There are types of financial aid that have limited funds and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. This is the reason that it is important to fill out your FAFSA as soon as possible and send it to the government, and to turn in all requested paperwork to our office as soon as possible.
Complete your federal tax forms (preferably before mid-March)
- It's important that you complete your federal tax forms as early
as possible. This information is needed to complete the FAFSA form.
Be sure to keep a paper copy of both parents' and student's forms
- even if you apply by telephone or over the Internet.
Complete your FAFSA as soon as possible. (mid-March is a good time to have processed by the government) - To apply for federal aid for the coming academic year, go to www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Be sure to have both tax forms and Federal PIN handy for both you
and your parents. TTU's school code is 003523.
Send documents to Financial Aid Office. The priority
"deadline" to have your paperwork turned in to our office is March 15th, but remember that this is just a ballpark date that we estimate would allow you to be considered for all aid that you are eligible to receive - even those with limited funds. After we receive the information on your FAFSA
from the federal government, we may contact you and ask for supporting
documentation - such as tax forms. If you are asked for specific forms, please send them to us as soon as possible.
Your application will not be considered complete until we have all
documents needed to process your federal aid. Remember that some
types of aid are limited, so don't be late!
The FAFSA is required to
be eligible for the Tennessee Lottery Scholarship for 2003 and after
Tennessee high school graduates. Deadlines are important,
so apply early. If you have any questions about receiving the Lottery
Scholarship at TTU, please contact Adriane King by e-mail.
Scholarships for incoming freshmen and transfer students
who plan to attend 2008-2009 are awarded through the Scholarship
Office. The deadline for considering an incoming freshmen
or transfer student for a scholarship will be December 15,
2007. For detailed procedures visit the scholarship website at www.tntech.edu/scholarships. All inquiries concerning Tennessee Tech Scholarships should be directed to the Scholarship Office by mail at Box 5116 or by phone at 931-372-6159.
If you plan to attend Tennessee Tech and receive any
scholarships from outside the university (civic organizations, parents'
workplace, etc.), please send our office a copy of the notification
letter you received concerning the scholarship as soon as possible.
Be sure to include your name and Social Security Number on the scholarship
notification letter. This will help us in coordinating your aid
and will avoid delays in getting your aid to you. If you have any
questions regarding an outside scholarship that you received, please
contact Brenda Elrod in the Financial Aid office ( belrod@tntech.edu).
If your parent is a licensed public school teacher,
State of Tennessee employee, Tennessee Board of Regents System employee,
or a UT System employee, send our office a copy of the appropriate
fee discount form early in the summer so we can get this type of
aid processed. You can print out a copy of the discount form:
Teacher-State Discount
Form (PDF). Please fill out this page, then print it so you can obtain the necessary signatures each semester.
If you have any questions concerning the financial
aid process please contact our Financial Aid Office.
