| How
to Calculate GPA
2003-2004 Academic Year only
Recipients in the H.S. class of 2003 must successfully complete
(earn) 24 credit hours in college with at least a 2.75 cumulative
GPA in the 2003-04 academic year to be eligible for the scholarship.
2004-2005 academic year and beyond
GPA will be calculated in the semester in which the student has
attempted 24 hours. If the GPA falls below 2.75, the student is
no longer eligible for the scholarship.
A 3.0 GPA is required for the remaining benchmarks.
Formula
Lottery GPA = (Quality points divided by Quality Hours)
A = 4 points
B = 3 points
C = 2 points
D = 1 point
Quality points = (course hours X grade)
Quality hours = total hours of each course attempted
Example: Student completes 5 classes with
the following grades:

| * Note: The hours for the "F" will not
be replaced after it is reported. |
Hours included for lottery scholarship GPA
calculation are:
-
Credit hours that were repeated. (These hours
will also count toward credit hour limitation). Grades for repeated
courses do NOT replace grades for the lottery GPA calculation, with the only exception being the one time repeat option.
Note: If a student is
eligible for TELS award, but does not receive an award, or receives
a reduced award due to funding, or cost of attendance is covered
by other aid, all credit hours attempted are still applied to the
credit hour limitation and are used in GPA calculations for eligibility.
Hours not included for lottery scholarship
calculation are:
- Credit hours attempted before high school graduation
- Credit hours earned by examination
- Credit hours attempted as part of diploma or certificate program
unless hours are counted toward degree
- Courses in which a student enrolls as an audit student for
which no college credit will be received
- Continuing education courses
- Courses which appear on a student’s transcript as an "incomplete"
(These will be considered credit hours attempted).
- Courses which appear on a student’s transcript as a "W"
(These will be considered hours attempted).
