Joy Wood Bush ('65)

After her B.A. degree from TTU she earned an M.S. degree in Guidance and Counseling and an M.A. degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Teachers of Other Languages) and Intercultural Studies. She taught 6th grade in the Prince George County School System in Petersburg, VA, then middle school in the Los Alamos School System, Los Alamos, NM.She made additional use of her TESOL degree by teaching English in English Language Institutes for Chinese university students in Langfang and Harbin, China. Joy is now enjoying retirement.

Carleen Alexander ('66)

In addition to her B.A. in French, Carleen has an M.A. in English (1971) from TTU. She also did graduate work at the University of Alabama, and she received her MLS degree from Peabody at Vanderbilt University. She has taught French, English, and Library Science at Soddy-Daisy Middle School and Loftis Middle School in Hamilton County, Tennessee after having taught at Hixson Middle School in the former Chattanooga City school system. She also taught in the Demopolis City Schools in Demopolis, Alabama. Currently she teaches at Sale Creek Middle School, 211 Patterson Rd., Sale Creek, TN 37373 (in the Hamilton County School System).

Dr. Martha Elizabeth Massey Gibson ('68)

After leaving Tennessee Tech, Martha married in August of 1968 and moved to Tallahassee, Florida where she received an MA in French at Florida State University in 1970. She taught two years of French at Florida State.

Her family moved to Nashville in 1973 and she was a full-time mother until the family moved again to Oxford, Mississippi in 1978. There she taught all levels of French at Oxford H.S. in Oxford, Mississippi while working on her Ph.D. in Higher Education and Student Personnel (with a teaching area in French) at the University of Mississippi (1981).

Her family returned to Nashville in 1981. From 1981-1991 she alternated between home schooling her two children (4 years total) and teaching French at Franklin Road Academy in Nashville, from which she is now retired. Martha also teaches a Sunday School class and a weekly women's Bible Study at their church in Nashville. Her husband, Robert Gary Gibson, a 1965 graduate of Tennessee Tech in Secondary Education-Mathematics, is University Registrar at Vanderbilt University.

They have two children: Joy Elizabeth Gibson Smith, an English and history graduate of Union University, and Jonathan Gibson, a graduate of Brentwood High School. Martha also has 6 grandchildren.
