Requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Environmental Sciences Students entering the doctoral program in Environmental Sciences will choose an area of concentration, either biology or chemistry. A graduate faculty member in the chosen discipline will serve as the student’s major professor and assist the student in forming an advisory committee. Working with the student, the committee will develop a plan of study and a research project leading to a doctoral dissertation which makes a significant contribution to the body of knowledge in the discipline. In addition, a student must adhere to all policies and procedures governing graduate study at the University, as contained in the Graduate Catalog and administered by the Associate Vice President of Research and Graduate Studies. Admission To Candidacy A student is formally admitted as a Candidate for the Ph.D. degree in Environmental Sciences based on the recommendation of the student’s advisory committee. The student must have completed eighty percent of the course work in the proposed plan of study, must have satisfactorily completed the comprehensive examination, and must have submitted a proposed doctoral research project which has been approved by the advisory committee.
