SCHOOL OF INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES AND EXTENDED EDUCATIONThe School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Extended Education is a University-wide service division which promotes educational, social, economic, and cultural development and welfare in Tennessee, particularly in the Upper Cumberland region and surrounding counties. This mission is carried out through the delivery of credit and non-credit offerings, at both on-campus and at off-campus locations in the service area. Deans, departmental chairpersons, and University faculty members participate in the off-campus advisory and instructional program to insure that courses offered are of the same quality as those taught on the main campus. Partnering with academic and administrative units, highly qualified personnel from business, industry and various educational agencies are utilized to provide direction and instruction for conferences, seminars, workshops and special events. The School of Interdisciplinary Studies was established in Spring 2001 to provide a flexible environment for faculty from various departments and colleges who have the common interest of producing innovative baccalaureate degrees to meet developing educational needs. The school's first degree program is the Regents Online Degree Program that offers the Bachelor of Science of Professional Studies and the Bachelor of Science of Interdisciplinary Studies. Extended Education provides service and outreach through delivery of courses to the TTU community in Cookeville, the Upper Cumberland region, and throughout the entire service area of the University. Courses and activities are offered at off-campus sites in thirty-five counties; on campus during evenings and weekends to accommodate student schedules; through workshops, conferences, seminars, and special events; and via various distance learning delivery methods. Assistance with scheduling and registration for Interdisciplinary Studies and Extended Education courses is provided by the campus Interdisciplinary Studies and Extended Education staff and coordinators at each off-campus location.
