Jere Whitson Hall

Jere Whitson Hall served as the home of the Tennessee Tech library from its construction in 1949 until 1989. It is named for Jere Whitson, one of the founders of Tech's forerunner Dixie College. Jere Whitson Hall is currently the location of the office of Alumni Relations, the Backdoor Playhouse, and offices, laboratories and classrooms for the College of Agriculture and Human Ecology. Also, the School of Nursing.

Accessibility Information:

Number of Floors: 3 Primary floors and 6 Stack levels

Parking: Accessible parking is in the rear of the building. There is also accessible parking available across West 8th Street. The spaces are both regular vehicle and van accessible.

Entrances: There are 2 accessible entrances to building. Both are at the East rear of the building. The primary entrance will access all levels of the building. The secondary entrance will only access the Backdoor Theatre. The primary entrance has an automatic door opener.

Elevators: The building has one elevator, which is located in the center of the building. The elevator accesses all 6 stack levels and 3 floors. There is one classroom at the front of the building that is not accessible by elevator.

Stairs: There are 3 stairways in building. Stairways are in front of the building and by the West entrance, which access only 4 levels of the building. The other stairway is in the back of the building, and accesses all 6 stack levels.

Restrooms: There are 4 accessible restrooms in the building; two on the basement level and two at the main entrance level on the right side of the foyer.

Rescue Assistance: There is an Emergency Phone located in the elevator cab.
