Computer Science - Admission Requirements

The Department of Computer Science offers advanced studies leading to a Master of Science degree in Computer Science with three tracks:

  • Internet-Based Distributing Computing 
  • Intelligence and Informatics
  • Information Assurance and Security

The Computer Science program offers both a thesis and nonthesis option. There are two concentrations available in this program:  Internet-based Computing and Computer Software and Scientific Applications.  Our M.S. degree program in Computer Science is driven by two distinct needs that are fueled by the growth in technological companies and jobs in the Middle Tennessee and Upper Cumberland regions. These needs include:

  • Opportunities for personnel from surrounding industries to upgrade their professional skills.
  • A strong academic program that prepares graduates to pursue a terminal (Ph.D.) degree in Computer Science.

Admission Requirements:

  • Satisfactory test scores on the General Record Exam (3.5 minimum on the Analytical Writing portion AND the following minimum scores of 146 on the verbal reasoning portion and 149 on the quantitative reasoning portion for full standing admission)
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Official transcripts from all previously-attended colleges and/or universities
  • Grade Point Average on Bachelor's degree of at least 3.0
  • International Applicants must also meet the English Language Requirement by providing test results on one of the following:
    • TOEFL--minimum IBT of 79
    • IELTS--minimum score of 5.5
    • PTE Academic--minimum score of 53
    • FLS Level 8
    • ELS--Level 112
    • TOEIC--minimum score of 750
    • CEFR--Band B-2
    • SLEP--minimum score of 58
