The Child Development and Family Relations program teaches students to examine individuals and families in the environments in which they live, work and play. Stages of individual and family development and the relationships people form throughout their lives are also prominent aspects of the program. Students can choose between two options: CDFR or Child Life

Application to the Child Life concentration is required as a gateway to the Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) credential, and CDFR students choosing the concentration should apply for it during the first semester of their junior year.

There are three components of eligibility to sit for the CCLS certification exam. They are:

• • A baccalaureate degree
  • A minimum of 10 college-level courses in child life or a related department or subject
  • Clinical child life experience (480 hours under the direct supervision of a CCLS in good standing)
