Organizations and Clubs

There are four organizations and clubs affiliated with the School of Human Ecology. The organizations and clubs promote leadership and interpersonal skills, provide opportunities for social and service activities, and acquaint students with career opportunities, with each other and with faculty advisors.


Beta Mu Chapter of Kappa Omicron Nu (KONu)

KONu, a national Family and Consumer Sciences/Human Ecology honor society, promotes scholarship, intellectual development, leadership and research, student and faculty dialogue, and high ethical standards. Membership eligibility is based on completion of 45 semester hours of course work, a minimum 3.0 grade point average, rank in top 25 percent of the class, and faculty recommendation.

Tennessee Tech Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (TTAFCS)

TTAFCS is a student chapter of the Tennessee Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. TTAFCS emphasizes professionalism through networking and volunteerism at the local level to enhance the quality of life of individuals and families. Membership is extended to all majors and minors in Human Ecology and Child and Family Studies.

Child Development & Family Relations (CDFR Club)

The CDFR Club provides students with extracurricular activities for service learning and for mentorships. The activities have included visiting Mullbro Heritage House, participating in the Angel Tree Christmas project, and collecting products for those in need.

Food, Nutrition and Dietetics Club (FND Club)

The FND Club provides information on nutrition issues, career opportunities in the nutrition/food industry, and internships and graduate school. Membership is open.

Home Designers Association (HDA)

The Home Designers Association is a bridge linking members with professionals through activities such as field trips, seminars and meetings. The members of this association work alongside Putnam County Habitat for Humanity. Membership is open.

Merchandising Association (MA)

The MA is an avenue for students to access the fashion industry. Members generally spend a week end each year in the Atlanta Fashion Market attending a Designer Fashion Show and visiting showrooms and shopping centers. Local meetings include guest speakers from retail, learning about employment opportunities, and enjoying the fellowship of students with similar interests. Membership is open to anyone interested in clothing, textiles, and/or merchandising.
