to Exercise Science, Physical Education and Wellness Department
The educational experiences and training provided by the department are diverse and in-depth. Our program is designed to individually cater to students who are interested in a variety of areas such as the physiological, psychological, and historical aspects of sport and exercise. We also provide outlets for athletic coaching and sport management, wellness education and physical education teacher preparation.
Graduates from our programs of study generally seek careers in the areas of sport, physical fitness, wellness and education.
The faculty in the Department of Exercise Science, Physical Education and Wellness believe that individuals and society benefit from physical activity. Thus, the mission of the Department is to promote enhanced quality of life through participation in physical activity, exercise and sport for the people of Tennessee and beyond.
The department offers the undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education and Wellness. The undergraduate degree leads to a K-12 teacher licensure endorsement in the State of Tennessee. The program prepares students for the essential role of teaching physical education in secondary schools. This program helps students develop the critical skills needed to become leaders and advocates for physical, health and wellness education in our schools. Graduates are equipped to provide high quality programs and to teach youth the importance and benefits of healthy lifestyles.
The undergraduate program in Exercise Science, Physical Education and Wellness is approved by the State of Tennessee and is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
