Family Medical Leave General Information
In compliance with the Family Leave Act of 1993, it is the policy of the Tennessee Board of Regents to provide eligible male and female employees up to twelve workweeks of leave during a twelve month period for specified family and medical reasons, to provide continued health insurance coverage during the leave period and to ensure employee reinstatement to the same or an equivalent position following the leave period. For purposes of this policy, "State" shall be defined as any State agency, the Tennessee Board of Regents System, and/or the University of Tennessee System.
- If an employee is expected to be absent more than three(3) consecutive days (do not have to be full days), then a
Family Medical Leave Notification Memo must be sent to HR before the employee returns to work. - If an employee is absent for a single illness on an intermittent basis for more than three days (in this case, the four or more absences may not be consecutive), then a
Family Medical Leave Notification Memo must be sent to HR. - If an employee wishes to request FMLA time, he/she should submit a
Request for Family and Medical Leave form .
