How do I page a student or other instructor if I notice they are online at the same time?

Click on the Classlist tool and then click on the student's name you wish to page.

Can I see a report on each of my students such as how many times they logged on, and the last time they accessed the course?

Yes, when in the Classlist tool, click on the View Progress Lookup Icon  icon to see a progress report on a student. There is no way to get totals for the entire class, only one student at a time.

Can I tell if a student has accessed a document I've placed in content?

Yes, when in the Classlist tool, click on the Lookup Icon  icon to see a progress report on a student. Then click on the Lookup Icon  icon in the Content area of the progress report to view which documents the student has accessed.

What types of Groups I can create?

There are five enrollment styles for group type:

  • No auto enrollment - select this option if you would like to assign participants to their groups manually
  • Groups of # - Use this option if you would like to assign x amount of people per group. This option allows you to have groups randomly assigned by the computer. In this option you can set a limit to the number of users in each group and the system will create as many groups as necessary. Type the maximum number of users to be in each group in the enrollment quantity box.
  • # of Groups - Use this option if you would like to create x amount of groups. This option will automatically create the number of groups you specify and randomly assign users to the groups. Enter the number of groups you want in the enrollment quantity box.
  • Self Enrollment - maximum x people per group. This option allows users to enroll themselves into groups while limiting the maximum number of users in each group. Type the maximum number of users to be in each group in the enrollment quantity box.
  • Self Enrollment - x groups. This option allows users to enroll themselves into groups while limiting the number of groups. Enter the number of groups you want in the Enrollment quantity box.

Is it possible to have Classlist generate a report showing all my students on one page with the number of course content items they have viewed? Right now I can only figure out how to view one student at a time.

The Classlist tool allows you to track individuals, but not class totals.

A solution to this is to build an anonymous Survey that utilizes Likert
Questions for Quantitative data and then open ended questions for Qualitative
data on how useful the Content materials were.  This would obtain more useful
information then whether or not the students clicked on the Topic.
To increase participation in the Survey and track which students completed it
you can:

1. Build a Survey and make it anonymous

2. Build a Quiz that connects to the grade book (it can be very simple - a
single question even and you can mark all the possible choices as being
correct).

3. Remove the Quiz and Survey links from the NavBar.

4. Inside the Content tool you can build a Topic that Connects to the survey.
Then build a Topic that connects to a Quiz and on this topic put the
Restriction/Release Condition that stipulates - "Survey Completed Survey
Attempt".  This will make sure that only students who complete the Survey see
the Link to the Quiz which actually does the tracking of whether or not they
completed the Survey.

5.  Finally, put a News announcement up that explains to students that they must
go to Content to do the survey and then return to content and do the quiz to
receive credit.
